Frequently asked questions

Fascial Counterstrain is a gentle and therapeutic, hands-on method of addressing and releasing tension in the fascial tissues throughout the entire body.

Fascia is a connective tissue that covers every organ, nerve, artery, muscle, ligament, tendon, vein, lymphatic vessel, and bony structure.

The fascia is loaded with autonomic nerves which respond automatically to any perceived danger to the tissue or structure it covers, by contracting.

This reflexive contraction or spasm is a protective response that occurs in all tissues resulting in pain that often persists. These reflexive patterns can remain for many years as the body continues to protect.

When this happens the musculoskeletal system is recruited in an attempt to support the compromised area, resulting in the potential to form hundreds of tender points.

The power of FCS is demonstrated as we gently position the body by shortening, compressing and unloading the offended tissues and structures, turning off the autonomic nervous systems protective responses.

The result is dramatic, reducing tension, alleviating the source of inflammation and pain allowing the body to reset and return to a restorative condition.
